We knew your beauty for a moment, but hold your memory for a lifetime.

I recently received the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of my former treatment program peers. Inmate ZZ108. A beautiful tortured soul with a mischievous spirit and a heart of gold. Her loving eyes and caring core were rhapsodic, outweighed only by her rascally playful laugh.
It’s a wretched reminder of the harrowing plight of addiction. When coupled with a major depressive disorder, the result is often cataclysmic. Comorbidity is demonic. Fervid and all consuming. Feeding off one another. Transmitting their poison through the bloodstream and infecting the brain with a perverse potency. Crippling reason, logic and self-restraint. Paralyzing rationale, drive and resolve. Beckoning willpower in a nefarious trap.
It’s infuriating. It’s disheartening. It’s arresting. It’s provoking. And bizarrely, it’s triggering!
I hate it. I want to destroy it. I need to vanquish it. And I just have to say it. For me and all of my cohorts. For each and every battle fought.
FUCK YOU SUDMHD!
-RIP ZZ
