The "just for today" concept in recovery is all about focusing on the present moment. Instead of worrying about tomorrow or dwelling on the past, it encourages you to take it one day at a time. It’s like saying, “I can handle today.” This mindset makes it easier to cope with the challenges of life and helps build a stronger foundation for lasting change.
Living by the "just for today" mantra is a way to practice self-care, taking small steps to nurture your mental health and well-being. But the truth is, recovery is really hard. So let this serve as a reminder to find humor wherever possible, because laughter is healing too.
Just for Today: The Slightly-Sarcastic Recovery Edition
Just for today, I will not try to control everything… unless it’s the playlist during car rides, because serenity depends on vibes.
Just for today, I will believe a power greater than myself can restore me to sanity… as long as that power isn’t LUMA, because lets face it, they SUCK!
Just for today, I will turn my will over… but not my cash. I know these kids are just gonna spend it at Sephora and Hot Topic!
Just for today, I will make a searching and fearless moral inventory… of everyone else, because that’s way easier.
Just for today, I will admit to God, myself, and another human being that I sent that text during a 2am hotflash. Growth!
Just for today, I will become entirely ready to have my defects removed… right after I’m done enjoying them one last time.
Just for today, I will humbly ask for my shortcomings to be removed. But like, not the funny ones. Some of these quirks are part of my brand now.
Just for today, I will make a list of all the people I’ve harmed… and only cry a medium amount.
Just for today, I will make amends wherever possible… unless doing so would mean calling my ex. That’s a Step 13, and we don’t do that.
Just for today, I will continue to take personal inventory… and maybe stop blaming my zodiac sign ♏️ for my attitude.
Just for today, I will seek conscious contact with my Higher Power… through deep meditation, prayer, or awkwardly whispering into my dogs ear.
Just for today, I will try to carry the message… without carrying the person. Unless their like really hot, or rich.
Recovery can often feel like climbing a steep mountain, and some days it’s a real struggle. But finding humor in everyday life can be incredibly healing. When life feels overwhelming, laughter acts like a reset. It’s that burst of joy that helps recharge your spirit and reminds you that despite the struggles, there is still plenty of life to enjoy. So, - Just For Today - lighten up!
